Michigan’s automotive headquarters are facing water and energy strain from a new AI data center development by Metrobloks.

Southfield residents gear up for a fight against AI data centers

Southfield, which is corporate home to many Tier 1 and 2 automotive suppliers and a thriving residential community, is facing an AI data center development by the urban developer Metrobloks. 


Metrobloks specializes in building AI data centers in urban areas. 


The developer held informational meeting on December 8th; a public hearing will be held by the City of Southfield next.

  • Subsidies: CHIPS Act, Michigan Data Center tax breaks
  • Water: ~1-5 million gallons of water per day
  • Energy: ~100+ megawatts per day

  • Call to action: work with City Council to develop a substantial Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) to accompany any development agreement or zoning approval.
