
Just north of Monroe, developers are eyeing township-owned land for AI data center development, which would draw even more water from an already strained Lake Erie.
The developer, Cloverleaf, has approached Frenchtown Township about purchasing an unused golf course owned by the township just north of Monroe.
There are currently two nearby nuclear power plants drawing water from Lake Erie for cooling. Local residents are concerned about the integrity of the Great Lakes, and about nearby William C. Sterling State Park–the only state park on Lake Erie.
